What it is
A Mac workstation that refuses to lie about coverage.
Recovery Studio is Hard Drive Recovery’s proprietary macOS app. Open a disk image or a folder, run recovery workflows, review candidates with honest labels, and export copies only. The original is never written.
We built it for the lab and for people recovering their own media. It will not invent files, sell silent RAID miracles, or print a “100% recovered” certificate.
Two licences
Basic for your own image. Technician for operators.
These are the licences we sell. There is no App Store cut-down SKU and no separate “forensic edition” on a store. Lab recovery jobs are quoted on Pricing, not bundled into the app price.
Basic · $499
Limited edition. Open an image or folder you already have. Quick catalogue of live and leftover filesystem names, signature carve when names are gone, partition map, preview, four labels (genuine, partial, unverified, rejected), copy-only hashed export.
What Basic does not do
It is not the operator tool. Deep every-byte scans, specialist analysis, detailed recovery reports, exhibit intake, authorised device imaging and technical-forensic reports sit on Technician.
Technician
The full operator tool we run in the lab. Imaging with coverage maps, deeper analysis, reports, exhibit handling. Annual $7,500 (normally $8,999). Lifetime $25,000, one-time licence to the product as sold. Enquire for terms.
What operators get
The same honesty walls, more of the bench.
On Technician, an operator can copy a disk to another drive, keep a map of what was read, unread or bad, and recover from that copy. Partitions can be mapped, including undeclared filesystem candidates. Results stay labelled; a signature hit is never called a recovered file by itself.
Unavailable modes stay visible with a reason. They are not hidden. DVR and CCTV workflows exist for recorder disks. Phone ingest is catalogue only: this is not a chip-off suite or a phone unlocker.

Scan with a named mode
Quick catalogue unless you have a reason to go deeper. Signature carve when names are gone.

Review honest labels
Genuine, partial, unverified, rejected. Unread or bad ranges stay named. Zero files is not sold as an empty drive.

Export copies only
Choose a folder on another disk. The original is not written. Encryption walls and mechanical failures are named, not hidden.

What it is not
The app will not write your original.
No restore-in-place. No fake success percentages. No cleanroom inside the app. No public download button. Sick mechanical drives belong in assessment, then referral if needed.
When media is too sick for a home Mac, the Sydney lab still images it. Free assessment either way. Lab fees and software licences stay separate.

Can I use Recovery Studio myself?
We run it in the Sydney lab. If you want to work an image on your own Mac, enquire for a Basic or Technician licence. There is no public download and no App Store listing.
What is the difference between Basic and Technician?
Basic is the limited edition for your own image or folder: quick catalogue, signature carve, partition map, honest labels, copy-only export. Technician is the full operator tool, including imaging, deeper analysis, reports and exhibit handling. Lab jobs are quoted separately.
Does it write back to my drive?
No. Export is copy-only on purpose. Restore-in-place and writing the original are refused.
When should I use the lab instead?
If the media is clicking, not detecting, or too unstable for a home Mac, stop and use the Sydney lab. Free assessment either way.
Is this EnCase or FTK?
No. It is an honest Mac recovery workstation for authorised own-media work. It does not claim to be a court toolkit.
How do I buy a licence?
